EDISON, N.J. — Jason Day took over the top spot in the FedExCup standings with his win Sunday at The Barclays, and he could move to No. 1 in the world next week, too.

Nick Taylor and Stewart Cink, meanwhile, found out just how slim the margins can be in the Playoffs.

Taylor, a University of Washington product, missed a 7-footer for birdie on the 18th and Cink a 14-footer for par on the same hole to be eliminated from the Playoffs.

Only the top 100 in the standings advanced to this week’s Deutsche Bank Championship. Taylor finished 101st and Cink 102nd.

Camilo Villegas, however, was on the other end of it. After five three-putts earlier in the day, he made a 9-footer for par on the last. His 3-over 73 and tie for 30th moved him to 99th in the standings.

It marked the second straight week the Colombian played just well enough to advance. He entered the regular-season finale (the Wyndham Championship) 129th in the standings and tied for 30th to move up to 123rd, two spots inside the cut-off.

“Last Sunday was a lot of pressure,” said Villegas, who retreated to player dining and was nervously checking his phone and doing the FedExCup math after his round. “I’d say I felt more comfortable today but I didn’t shot it with the way I played. I got anxious at the end but made the toughest (putt) I had all day. The one I had on 18 gives me a chance to go to next week.

“I’m playing better, but I need to be a little shaper mentally when there is a little heat on. I can B.S. you guys, but I didn’t play great Sunday last week and didn’t play good this week on Sunday. Were there nerves? Yes. There was pressure and I need to get a little bit better at that. I haven’t put myself in this situation a lot the last couple years and when you’re not in that situation you’re not as comfortable.”

A return trip to TPC Boston could help. Villegas tied for third there in 2009 and was ninth the year before.

“I don’t want to come from so far behind, but it is what it is,” he said. “This was the most important week of the year by far. I’m going (hopefully) four more rounds next week and if you win the tournament guess what you have a chance to win the FedExCup. This month can do a lot of things for your career.”

BUBBLE BOY: The new player on the hot seat after The Barclays is Boo Weekley, who enters the Deutsche Bank Championship 70th in the FedExCup standings. Only the top 70 after next week will advance to the third leg of the Playoffs. Weekley missed the cut at The Barclays, shooting 73-75.

MOVING IN, MOVING OUT: Eight players moved into the top 100 to earn a spot in this week’s tournament. There are: Zac Blair (from No. 106 to No. 45), Spencer Levin (115 to 80), Jason Dufner (103 to 82), Carlos Ortiz (112 to 83), Mark Wilson (114 to 85), Luke Donald (119 to 87), Johnson Wagner (101 to 92) and Villegas (123 to 99).

The eight players who fell out of the top 100 and whose Playoffs are over are: Padraig Harrington (87 to 103), Greg Owen (90 to 104), John Peterson (93 to 105), Adam Scott (94 to 106), Adam Hadwin (95 to 107), Charl Schwartzel (96 to 108), John Huh (97 to 110) and Francesco Molinari (99 to 111).

ELIMINATED: There were 17 additional players between 101 and 125 at the start of the week who were also eliminated from the Playoffs. They were: Taylor (T53), Graham DeLaet (missed cut), Jon Curran (missed cut), Steve Wheatcroft (missed cut), Andres Gonzales (missed cut), Chris Stroud (missed cut), Lee Westwood (T58), Retief Goosen (DNP), Chad Collins (missed cut), Cink (T39), Ken Duke (T62), Vijay Singh (T66), Tim Clark (missed cut), Jonas Blixt (missed cut), Erik Compton (WD), Ryo Ishikawa (T66), Jeff Overton (T69).
