Ryan Moore’s impressive Tour Championship performance at East Lake has catapulted him into Team USA for the 41st Ryder Cup, which will be contested Sept. 30-Oct. 2 at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minn.

Team USA captain Davis Love III added Moore with his final captain’s pick to round out his 12-man team after he went toe-to-toe with Rory McIlroy on Sunday before falling on the fourth playoff hole.

Moore matched McIlroy’s final-round 64 to join a playoff and showed great fortitude under the pressure of the playoff before McIlroy clinched the win with a clutch birdie.

Moore also won the John Deere Classic in August and had top-10 results in The Barclays and Deutsche Bank Championship before his runner up result at the TOUR Championship during the FedExCup Playoffs.

The Washington State native also has an impressive match play background.

He was a quarterfinalist this year at the World Golf Championships – Dell Match Play and back in his amateur days he was a stud.

Along with winning the 2002 U.S. Amateur Public Links, Moore also captured the NCAA Individual Championship and the U.S. Amateur in 2004.

He has played in the Walker Cup, Palmer Cup and the World Amateur Team Championship during his career.

“Ryan fits so well with what we have in place,” Love said.

“He’s an easy-going, thoughtful guy, but don’t be fooled, Ryan’s a great match-play player with an incredible match-play record. He has guts and determination, and everyone saw that today. We are thrilled to have him with us.”

The selection controversially leaves world No. 7 Bubba Watson out of the team. He is the third highest ranked American in the world behind only No. 2 Dustin Johnson and No. 4 Jordan Spieth.

Moore will be one of just two rookies on the U.S. team, along with Brooks Koepka, as the USA tries to turn around European dominance.

They join Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth, Phil Mickelson, Brandt Snedeker, Zach Johnson, Patrick Reed, Jimmy Walker, Rickie Fowler, Matt Kuchar and J.B. Holmes in the team.

Europe has won eight of the last 10 and six of the last seven Ryder Cups, including the last three in a row.

Led by newly crowned FedExCup champion Rory McIlroy they include Justin Rose, Henrik Stenson, Sergio Garcia, Lee Westwood and Martin Kaymer plus six rookies in Masters champion Danny Willett, Rafa Cabrera Bello, Matthew Fitzpatrick, Andy Sullivan, Thomas Pieters and Chris Wood.

Play begins Friday morning.
